ReedSCAN vs Scandit

Scandit is a broad enterprise data-capture suite with native SDKs on about ten platforms, ready-made AR components and ID capture, priced by quote per device or per scan. ReedSCAN is web-only: a 0.9 MB engine, a license key checked offline that sends nothing back, and per-domain licensing with no device or scan counting. Choose Scandit for native apps, ready-made AR components and ID capture; choose ReedSCAN to put fast, private barcode capture into a web app.

Choose Scandit if

  • You ship native iOS or Android apps and want one vendor across them and the web.
  • You want ready-made AR components, such as MatrixScan's info bubbles and Find screen, rather than styling the boxes or drawing your own overlay.
  • You also need ID document or label capture from the same vendor.
  • You read specialty symbologies beyond the 13 mainstream ones.
  • Your procurement requires an ISO 27001 certified vendor today.

Choose ReedSCAN if

  • Your product is a web app, and you want capture inside it rather than a separate native app.
  • Page weight matters: the engine is about 0.9 MB, against roughly 7.7 MB per variant.
  • You want a license check that works offline and sends nothing about your usage to the vendor.
  • You'd rather license per domain than count devices or scans.
  • Your developers can evaluate today, without a sign-up or a sales call.

ReedSCAN and Scandit: questions

Is ReedSCAN an alternative to Scandit?
For web apps, yes. ReedSCAN covers browser-based barcode and QR capture, including many codes at once. Both draw live boxes that follow each code, and ReedSCAN styles each one from your data. ReedSCAN doesn't replace Scandit's native mobile SDKs, its ready-made AR components or ID capture.
Which is smaller, ReedSCAN or Scandit Web SDK?
ReedSCAN's WebAssembly engine is about 0.9 MB. Scandit's is about 7.7 MB per variant, and its barcode package is 41.9 MB unpacked on npm (measured 3 November 2026).
Does either send scan data to the vendor?
Both process images on the device. Scandit's terms say its software may transfer certain data to Scandit depending on the license key settings, and its dashboard reports installations and scans. ReedSCAN sends nothing: its license key is verified offline.
How do their prices compare?
Neither publishes a price list. Scandit quotes per device or per scan, billed yearly. ReedSCAN licenses per domain, with no device or scan counting.
